Working with a small team, challenges included designing control inputs, craft subframe, and cockpit components for an experimental two passenger, one atmosphere, “underwater aircraft". Ancillary responsibilities included website design and creation, IT administration, and interfacing with project sponsors.
Performed analyses of submersible pertaining to component placement for ease of maintenance, simplicity in design, and pilot safety. Implemented designs for control inputs, life support systems, and pilot ergonomics using AutoDesk Inventor and 1:1 wooden and composite models of craft cockpit.
Submersible surpassed project goals of traveling at speeds faster than conventional craft and diving to depths of approximately 1,500 ft. Aviator was successfully launched in January 2002.
